The results of the PET scan (which included infusion of low dose radioactive glucose) were discussed with Dr Jarvie. The scan detected: (i) moderate activity the spiculated nodule in the upper segment of the lower lobe of the right lung; (ii) intense activity in a lymph node in the pulmonary hilar region of the right lung; and (iii) mild to moderate activity in another lymph node in the hilar region of the right lung. [An anatomical diagram showing lung locations is in the More Details section]. The conclusion of the PET scan report was that the spiculated nodule is primary lung cancer which has metastasized locally to lymph nodes within the right lung. It was a big relief to know that the PET scan showed “No evidence of metabolically active distant metastatic disease”.
Dr Jarvie recommended a fine needle aspirate and core biopsies of tumour tissue. Request for procedure sent to biopsy clinic. DF to await call from Prince of Wales Hospital Medical Imaging to schedule the procedure.
