Mighty Elekta, the radiation machine, had a maintenance service on Monday 30 September so I had a day at home to “enjoy” the delights of chemotherapy drugs circulating in my body. It was a better day than the day before, but a complete lack of energy and feeling queasy all day wore thin. I did small things that required minimal concentration, and again, mercifully, sleep engulfed me and I became unaware symptoms and time passing. I make myself get up and walk around a bit and also eat, but neither is easy. On the other hand, I am grateful that my side effects are essentially small compared to the impacts that I see other patients facing when I visit the Centre. With David’s help, I got through the day. We watched a little TV together in the evening and I went to bed early. Life for me has certainly shrunk to being at home and runs to the hospital and back. I am not complaining, in truth, at this stage, that level of activity is probably as much as I can sustain without ending up drained.
